Great Golf Courses To Play In Western Canada

There are a number of great golf courses to play in the Canadian Rockies. Some of these golf courses have existed for many years. For example Banff  Springs Golf Course was opened in 1911 and expanded to an eighteen hole course in 1924. Other great courses located in near-by to the Banff Springs golf courses include newer courses such as the Silvertip Stewart Creek golf courses located in Canmore. Also located in The Town of Banff is The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course.


These courses offer spectacular scenery as they are situation in some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. There locations also offer many other activities such as mountain biking and hiking for those who not inclinded to playing a round of golf.

Farmont Banff Springs Golf Course

This golf course is located in Banff National Park. The course offer eye-popping views in every direction beacuase of its location in very rugged mountainous area. The courses itself is very challenging for both amateurs and professionals alike.

Designed by world-renowned golf architect Stanley Thompson, the original 18-hole course was later complemented by the construction of an adjoining 9 holes, designed by Cornish and Robinson and opened in 1989; thereby completing this championship layout.
The Fairmont Banff Springs attracts business visitors and holiday golfers alike and has been played by such notables as Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Clint Eastwood and world-famous golfer Bobby Locke, who described the course as being "out of this world."

Silver Tip Golf Course and Resort

This course is built at foot of Mount Lady MacDonald which overlooks the Bow River Valley in Canmore, Alberta.

The course meanders through many elevation changes making a motorized golf cart mandatory. Cougars and Grizzly Bears  have been often been seen in the fairways or in the trees along the rough.

 The course was named for a rare type of grizzly beat. These bear have a silver tip on their fur and therefore are appropriately known as silver tip bears.

You will likely need a motorized golf cart to finish this course.

Stewart Creek Golf Course

This courses is situated at the foot of the Three Sisters. The Three Sisters is a trio of mountains located near the town of Canmore. They are well worth a photogragh. They are know individually as Little Sister, Middle Sister and Big Sister. Little Sister and Big Sister can be sumitted various scramble routes. Middle Sister can only be sumitted by mountaineering routes. Of course if playing golf does not interest your perhaps you could try a scramble up Little or Big Sister. Big Sister will be the greatest elevation change and the more challenging of the two as her summit is 9,632 feet (2,935 meters).

Stewart Creek Golf and Country Club is consistently rated as a 4.5 by Golf Digest. The course was opened in 2000. The course is built on an abandoned mine and follows the rugged contours of the mountainous terrain bellow the Three Sisters. The yardage from the back tee's is 7,195 feet and 5,136 from the front tee's. This makes both challenging for the advanced player and allows for an excellent golf experience for the novice golfer.

Canadian Rockies Golf Courses



There are two courses at Kananaskis Country Golf Course – Mt. Kidd and Mt. Lorette – and both are internationally ranked. Not far from Canmore and Banff, these classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs offer stunning views of the craggy tips of the surrounding mountains.

** Kananaskis Country Golf Course is currently closed due to significant flood damage that occurred in 2013, and will be open by the 2018 season.
